Golfers tee up for CALM golf day

CALM, the Swindon based Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia charity held a successful annual golf day at the Wrag Barn Golf and County Club nr Highworth on Thursday 25th June 2009.

17 teams competed in a 9 hole Texas Scramble in the morning, followed by an 18 hole Stableford competition in the afternoon.

For the morning session the teams were split into two groups, one playing on the front 9, and the other on the back nine.

Byron’s Bandits taking the honours on the front 9, with Aldi Aces took the honours on the back nine.

Itel Electronics picked up the main prize of the day, the CALM Golf Shield, winning the afternoon 18 hole Stableford.

Itel Electronics Team member Ben Mapson won the prize for the best individual score.

The Deputy Mayor of Swindon Rex Barnett, accompanied by his wife Sandra, along with Rodrigo Villegas from CALM Golf Day sponsors Andalucia Marketing UK Ltd were present to hand over the prizes.

Other local personalities taking part in the day included former Swindon Town footballers Phil King and Michael Pook, and football director and local businessman Cliff Puffett.

With a raffle and auction also taking place on the day, CALM raised £4,000 towards the costs of running the charity.

“Once again we were incredibly lucky with the weather," commented CALM Chairman Richard Crowley

"The sun came out and all the golfers seemed to enjoy the day at Wrag Barn. To have 17 teams taking part, and to raise in the region of £4,000 is a magnificent result given the current financial climate.”
