Tee off to support children’s charity

SPORTING enthusiasts can test their putting skills while helping out sick children.

A charity golf day has been organised at the Broome Manor golf course on Friday, May 14 in aid of CALM, the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Movement.

This includes a three course evening meal at The Old Bank, in Wood Street, Old Town.

Entrants will get to do 18 holes of golf at the course, off Pipers Way, with bacon rolls and coffee on arrival.

There will also be a variety of prizes including for nearest to the pin and the winning team in addition to a charity raffle and auction later in the day.

Local businessman Tom Gallagher, of M4 Minibus Centre, Broad Hinton, has donated a £1,000 cash prize to the winner of a hole-in-one competition.

Broome Manor Golf Complex and The Old Bank working in conjunction with Rikki Hunt, a member of the Mayor Designate's charity fund raising committee, organised this event to raise funds for local charity CALM.

It provides support for families within the Swindon area who have and had children or young persons dealing with cancer or leukaemia.

Richard Crowley, chairman of CALM, said: "All the money given to us goes straight back to the families, on social events and sending families away on holiday to our caravans.

"Every penny we get really is very important to families who have children with cancer or leukaemia.

"Our running costs are relatively high, so it is a lot of money to raise when it's parents going out shaking buckets.

"Without the support of events like this and the support of businesses in Swindon we wouldn't be able to do all the things we do."

The cost for the day is £65 each or £260 for a team of four.
