Charity cyclists cover the distance

THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for charity as Woolworths employees cycled from Swindon to London, despite not leaving the town centre.

A team of eight took it in turns to ride on exercise bikes supplied by Fitness First Monday.

And in three and a half hours they covered 84 miles – the distance between Swindon’s Woolworths and the head office in Marylebone, London.

They raised £2,500 for local charity CALM.

Bikeathon co-ordinator Phil Rowley said: “It went really well, we covered the distance much quicker than we had anticipated and had some great reactions from the public.”

CALM is an independent, charity that works with families who have children suffering from cancer or leukaemia.

The employees in Regent Street took part in the fundraising through the Woolworth’s Kids’ First scheme, which has raised £6.5m to help children throughout the UK. Woolworths’ Kids’ First manager Jodi Saul said: Kids’ First is an independent registered charity which aims to improve the quality of children’s lives in local communities.

“We are delighted our colleagues in Swindon are able to utilise Kids’ First with their fundraising for CALM.”
